A drug counselor has been fired from his job with St. Mary's Healthcare for sexual abuse, authorities said.

John Gaston, 62, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse, plus forcible touching and harassment. Law enforcement says Gaston inappropriately touched a woman patient who was under his care. A supervisor's call to a state hotline prompted the investigation that included Amsterdam P.D.

In a statement, the NYS Justice Center said St. Mary's Healthcare, Inpatient Addictions Rehab, is a program licensed by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). According to the complaint, Gaston touched the woman’s breasts and buttocks. He’s been released on $1,000 bond.

The case is being prosecuted by Justice Center Assistant Special Prosecutor Christina Calabrese.
