Golden states with golden weather are not for your golden years. Neither is New York. So says a new survey about retirement states.
New York ranks dead lasts in a survey of the best states for retirement.
According to the study, the best state for retirement is South Dakota. The survey uses criteria like cost of living, taxes, healthcare, crime and climate. In New England, Maine is #12, New Hampshire is #13, Vermont is 14th and Massachusetts ranks 20th.
Others you might think were top spots include Arizona (#16), Florida (#39) and Hawaii (#46).
