Just when it's starting to warm up here in the Capital Region, about 40 members of the Scotia-based 109th Airlift Wing are heading to frigid cold of the Canadian Arctic Friday.

2 C-130's are flying to Resolute Bay where it's about 20 degrees below zero.

They'll spend about a week working with Canadian military on search and rescue training.

New York Air National Guard Lt. Col. Cliff Souza says another challenge they'll face is landing the big transport plane on a different surface.

Souza adds it's easier to fly at sea level than the higher elevations of Antarctica.
