Herd Hierarchy: Colin Cowherd Ranks the 10 Best NFL Teams After Week 6 – October 20th

(VIDEO SEGMENT ABOVE)

10. Chicago Bears (5-1)

“They’ve held all their opponents under 30 points, best in the NFL. I cannot unsee what they did to Tampa Bay. They pushed Tampa Bay around the field, induced 11 penalties by the Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay was absolutely rattled. PHYSICALLY rattled against Chicago. I don’t think they have a ton of juice offensively, but I think they’re well-coached, and they’ve held opponents under 20 in each of the last three weeks.”

9. Los Angeles Rams (4-2)

“Why? Because they’re favored by 5.5 over Chicago. That’s what the analytics and the oddsmakers think. They did not play well this week, and I know they’re 4-0 against the NFC East, but I think the defense is better than they give it credit for. The Niners were playing with absolute urgency on Sunday, and I think this is a very good football team in a tough division. They’ve had A LOT of travel. This is a good football team, they’re favored over the Bears, and they can be explosive when Jared Goff has time to throw.”

8. Green Bay Packers (4-1)

“I’m sorry, but I am putting the Packers here. I think they’re a September and early-October team. I can’t unsee them getting pushed around by Tampa. They were pushed around twice last year by San Francisco, pushed around by the Chargers, and pushed around by Philadelphia. This is a football team who does not like to get into a fistfight and now the weather changes, now comes the cold, and now comes the physical teams. Yes, Green Bay is fun in September and early-October, but I think we have a football team who clearly doesn’t have a ton of fight if they play physical football teams, and that’s what the NFL will be going forward.”

7. San Francisco 49ers (3-3)

“I can’t have the Packers above San Francisco. They're one of the most physical teams, and now their wide receivers are getting healthy. Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan are now 4-0 against the Rams. Their top back is out for the next three weeks, and their schedule is not easy, but I look at Kittle, healthy receivers, Garoppolo better, and best young coach in football – Kyle Shanahan, I don’t want any piece of San Francisco going forward. They’re not going to have Bosa, and the pass rush isn’t quite as good, but I like their physicality that was on display Sunday.”

6. Baltimore Ravens (5-1)

“I still like the Ravens a lot but I am concerned that in Lamar’s last three games his completion percentage is under 60%. I think they are a very good football team, but he is getting very casual in his delivery with a lot of sidearm stuff. They are not as explosive as they were last year, and what troubles me is their pass rush is wildly inconsistent, and they’re not as good defensively. I don’t know how Philadelphia got back into that game with Travis Fulgham. It’s a good football team but Lamar feels like he’s hit a bit of a ceiling. His throwing is getting sloppy, and his escapability is moving too far left, and too far right. They gotta reboot a little in the next couple weeks.”

5. Seattle Seahawks (5-0)

“I like them but I’d like to see them with Jamal Adams. They really like some of their young defensive players, and they’ll get better as the season progresses. Their defense right now is giving up 470 yards a game, but Russell Wilson makes everything work. I trust Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, and DK Metcalf is one of the hardest guys in the league to stop. Seattle is a team who has great leadership at key positions, and they’ve got playmakers like Adams, Wilson, Metcalf, and Bobby Wagner.”

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-0)

“Pittsburgh has playmakers everywhere. How good was that move to get Minkah Fitzpatrick? God, has he been a find. Chase Claypool is the closest thing to Calvin Johnson I’ve seen. He has changed that offense. Go throw that guy a 7-yard hitch and you cross your fingers that you have a cornerback that can bring him down. Their defensive is fantastic, Big Ben is making no mistakes, and they’re significantly more buttoned up than I thought they would be. I was completely wrong.”

3. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1)

“I loved what I saw last night and loved the running game. They had 245 rushing yards, which was the most in the Mahomes era. Sometimes they can worry me defensively, and can be very average in the first half. They have a +25 point differential in the first half this year, and when you consider some of the teams they’ve played, and their talent, they are a slow-starting team that worries me.”

2. Tennessee Titans (5-0)

“Mike Vrabel is the next great coach. They’re 16-0 when Derrick Henry runs for over 100 yards, and we gotta get over this thing about Ryan Tannehill. I don’t care about the ‘Adam Gase’ Ryan Tannehill, this Ryan Tannehill can play. He’s a borderline Pro Bowler and it might not even be borderline; he’s a REAL quarterback. They’re well-coached, they’re physical, they have an absolute feel for what they are, and what they’re not. Sometimes wide receiver can be sketchy, but I think they’re an excellent football team.”

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)

“Tampa Bay is number one because I think they’re a more gifted offensive team, with a better defense than Tennessee. From what I saw on Sunday, I think they have the best defensive coach in the league, Todd Bowles. Their defensive front 7, now with Steven McClendon, is going to be a nightmare, their secondary is underrated, and now they’re getting healthy on the perimeter. Gronk is now valuable, and I think when Fournette comes back it’s Fournette, Ronald Jones, and Shady McCoy. They’re deep at multiple positions, and on their best day is the best team in the National Football League. Most of you think I’m nuts, but they can play physical, they can play finesse, they can play home, they can play road, and they’re getting better."
