The Ultimate Super Bowl X Factor

Okay, stop me if you have heard this before. Super Bowl 55 is a potential passing of the torch moment between the G.O.A.T and the kid (baby goat). Patrick Mahomes & Tom Brady are two of the three NFL quarterbacks this year to throw for over 4,500 yards with 35 plus touchdowns, Josh Allen is the third of that trio. This will be a match up of two of the three best all-time winning percentages by a QB. This game features two teams that have potent offenses lead by two of the best QBs in the league. We all know about Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, etc... We also know in a game of this magnitude it takes all three phases of the game to make a champion. We have discussed at nauseam about the offense, the QBs, and the weapons. We have also discussed what defense has the upper hand, both teams are playing very well especially with the Chiefs defense heating up down the stretch while JPP & Shaq Barrett have formed a sack tandem for the Bucs. The one phase that often gets overlooked could be the most critical, especially in a game of inches, is the special teams. The Chiefs rank 4th in the league with 25.8 yards per a kick return, while the Bucs rank 19th at 21.8 yards per a return. Their punt returns are essentially a wash as the Chiefs average 5.8, and the Bucs 5.9 yards per a return. The difference really comes into play with their return coverage as the Bucs rank last in the NFL with 33.6 yards on average given up in 14 returns this year, while the Chiefs rank 22nd with an average of 23.9 given up on 23 returns. The Bucs also rank 26th in punt return yards allowed with 10.6 yards on 23 returns, the Chiefs come in more at the middle of the pack at 13th giving up 7.9 yards on 15 returns. So while it may be overlooked for this game that features two super-star quarterbacks, it very well could have an impact on the game especially if a blown kick return coverage comes at a crucial time in the game. All eyes may be on the star QBs (for good reason) make sure you don't leave your seat when the Bucs kick the ball away to Byron Pringle who has the highest yards per a return (32.4) by a returner with at least 10 returns, or Mecole Hardman who has 4.33 40 speed.
